Panic Time!

The countdown to Christmas is in progress. I've been driving around town all weekend trying to come up with clever ideas for gifts. I'm one of those that really enjoys trying to come up with something special for everyone. This year, I think I'm failing miserably!

For those of you who get a gift from me, let me tell you up front that I really did try to think out of the box. The problem is, this year I can't even seem to find that box! I just didn't have a good shopping season. Sometimes you run across things that you just know people are going to like. Other years, you struggle and you end up in that panic mode. As of now, a couple of you are still out in the cold as far as a gift comes. I just hope I don't end up at Allsups on Christmas Eve doing my shopping for you!

Billy Joel in Concert

I went to the Billy Joel concert at the American Airlines Center last night. I saw him about 20 years ago at Reunion Arena and the show wasn't a whole lot different now than it was then. He's older, so he doesn't run around the stage like he used to, but he did play most of his hits. Thankfully, he spared us from Uptown Girl and a few others that I never did like. He tried out a couple of newer songs that didn't go over too well. I guess most people (like me) just wanted to hear his hits.

Our seats we actually pretty good. We had a few close up views of him as he came to the side of the stage. It was a lot of fun, and I'd definitely see him again. There were around 20 thousand people in the audience singing along with songs most of us have heard our entire lives. Piano Man, My Life, Scenes from an Italian Restaurant...It was very cool.

Thanksgiving 2007!

Thanksgiving was a little different this year as we held it in the Dallas area. It was a one time change to our normal Thanksgiving, but it turned out really nice. Cliff & Wendye stayed with me, and Mom stayed with Jane.

Julie & David hosted the shin-dig at their house and everyone had plenty to eat!!! I still have pies left over in my refigerator. Here are a few pictures from the big occasion.

The kids seemed to think it was Halloween all over again as a haunted house broke out upstairs after all the eating was over. Kacie & Lindsay enjoyed showing off their makeup techniques to each other. (SCARY!)

Countdown to Thanksgiving!

Only two weeks until Thanksgiving! Wow, this one has kind of snuck up on everyone. I'm spending the holiday at home this year, as the family is coming down to visit. So this means I have to get the house ready for visitors. I'm going to have the place fixed up with all the Christmas decorations. Julie & David are spending the Christmas holiday in Lubbock this year, so we'll be having our Christmas gift exchange at Thanksgiving. I figure since everyone will be down, I'll just go ahead and have the place decorated up like it's Christmas! (Plus, I just like putting up the tree early) So if you call me in the next couple of weeks, you may hear jingle bells playing in the background while I'm hanging the wreath over the fireplace. It's the most wonderful time of the year!!!

Halloween!

Happy Halloween to all! It's a scary time of the year. Witches and goblins all over the place. Some of those creatures are hard to describe. Here's one that has been haunting the neighborhoods of Pantego for the last week or so.
Actually, Jane is doing pretty darn good. This picture was taken only 10 days after her surgery. The swelling is going down, and she is less red every day. I have to admit that I think she's going to look good.

It's Goblin Time!!!

So, Halloween is almost here. I guess that means it's time for us to start getting those costumes ready. What's that you say? That doesn't like like a costume. Well, it's not. Our plain Jane is trying to break out of the mold, shed her coccoon and see what comes out. Well let me tell you, I've see it and it's scary!!! (click on picture to see a huge, close up view)

This picture was taken on Friday the 19th of October, one day after her surgery. She was swollen, red and gooey. I saw her again on Wednesday the 24th and she looked....better...? Yeah, it was better, in a burn victim kind of way. I'll try to get a picture posted in the next day or so you can see for yourself. It will take a few weeks before she no longer frightens the children in the neighborhood. But just think what a hit she'll be on Halloween!!!

Oklahoma State Trip

I traveled to the Okie state this past weekend to see Justin and the Oklahoma State campus. I'd never been to Stillwater before, and didn't really know what to expect. Honestly, I just didn't think it would be that nice. I kind of expected to see a bunch of older buildings, maybe even a few trailers.

Who knew the place was so nice? Here's a picture of the Student Union Building. All the buildings on the campus look like this. It was really a cool place, and now I know why Justin enjoys it so much.

We went to a pep rally the night before the football game inside the basketball arena. Those folks sure do like orange! I remember why college can be so fun when you attend events like this. Watching the fraternities & sororities and all the students get so excited about homecoming was pretty cool.

It was fun seeing Justin, but felt bad that he wasn't down there yelling with all his friends during the pep rally. We had the chance to go by his dorm and see his room and meet his roomates. He's got a really nice setup there and all the guys seem really nice. They didn't even seem to mind the "old folk" hanging out in their room for a little while.

The football game itself was great. Oklahoma State beat the Kansas State Wildcats 41 to 39 on a last second field goal. The picture to the left was taken just before the field goal was snapped. The place went wild right after this. That was a great homecoming game!
As you can see in the picture, they are still working on the endzone of the stadium. When they get it done, it's going to be really great!
